Puerto Caleta de Velez Marina

The Port 0f Caleta de Velez is located about 99 miles to the east of Malaga City and 34 miles west of the Port of Motril. It is an ideal stopover for yachtsmen wishing to break up the haul between Cabo de Gata and the western Costa del Sol. The Port is shared with the fishing fleet, which is not at all unusual in the area. Berthing is in the traditional Mediterranean style, stern-to to floating pontoons, bows to a mooring buoy.

There are no finger berths, but there is a boatyard and slipway. This is a much less travelled, and therefore more tranquil, part of the Costa del Sol than the west of Malaga, which is clearly evident in the relaxed atmosphere that pervades the port, especially out of the peak tourist season. In September, both here and also at Barbate, fishing con tests take place.
